Arsenal talent Marquinhos seems poised for a loan move back to Brazil.

Marquinhos had a stint at Nice during the first half of the current season, away from Arsenal.

However, his time in France didn’t unfold as anticipated. Despite his young age of 20, he only managed seven appearances in Ligue 1, six of which were as a substitute.

Consequently, he was recalled by Arsenal shortly after the start of the New Year.

Edu, the sporting director, played a significant role in Marquinhos’ transfer to Arsenal from Sao Paulo in 2022.

Despite optimism about his potential from figures like Martin Keown, Marquinhos has struggled to make an impact at Arsenal, with just six first-team appearances. His loan spells with Norwich City and Nice also failed to showcase his abilities.

Returning to Brazil could offer Marquinhos a chance to rejuvenate his career. Journalist Felipe Cardoso reports that Fluminense is close to securing Marquinhos on loan for the remainder of the season.

At this juncture, Marquinhos’ long-term success at the Emirates Stadium seems uncertain. Nevertheless, his evident talent suggests that Arteta may not completely discount his prospects with the club just yet.

Should he find his stride in Brazil and undergo rapid development, there remains a possibility for him to rejoin Arsenal in the summer with renewed readiness to vie for a spot in the first-team roster.

On the flip side, a successful loan spell could enhance Marquinhos’ market value, prompting Arsenal to consider selling the Brazilian under-23 international.

Returning to Brazil should ideally provide Marquinhos with the ideal setting to regain confidence and form.

However, even if he performs admirably, Marquinhos faces a daunting challenge in displacing Bukayo Saka, a left-footed right-winger, in Arsenal’s hierarchy. Nonetheless, Arteta’s squad currently lacks a natural alternative for the 22-year-old academy graduate from Hale End. Marquinhos might emerge as a viable candidate to fill that crucial role within the team.

Yet, at present, Marquinhos must concentrate on maximizing his opportunities during this upcoming loan stint, as it could represent his final opportunity to demonstrate his potential impact at Arsenal.
