Alexandre Lacazette shows his true colours with response to Arsenal’s title challenge

Alexandre Lacazette, a former Arsenal forward, has stated that he is not surprised to see his ex-team contending for the Premier League title this season.

With just nine matches left to play, Arsenal is currently leading the table, eight points ahead of second-placed Manchester City, who have a game in hand over them.

This is a vast improvement from their last season’s performance, where they finished fifth after a late-season collapse that saw them lose two of their last three matches and miss out on qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.

Lacazette departed Arsenal in the summer, moving to Lyon on a free transfer. However, he has expressed that he expected Arsenal’s significant progress this season, given the managerial skills of Mikel Arteta.

“Arsenal? I’m not surprised,” he told Foot Mercato when asked about his former side’s fortunes.

“I worked with the coach so I know how well he works. I’m not surprised by the club’s success, and I’m happy for my former team-mates there.”

Arsenal’s next match will take them to Anfield, a venue where they haven’t won a league game since 2012. In their last six league visits to Merseyside, Arsenal has suffered defeat on each occasion, with a total of 22 goals conceded and only four scored in return.

The current season has been a struggle for Jurgen Klopp’s team, who currently sit in eighth place and are 30 points behind Arsenal in the league table.
