Arsenal could be handed Leandro Spinazzola transfer boost after agent comments amid links
Arsenal is one of the teams associated with AS Roma’s defender, Leandro Spinazzola, and they might find encouragement in remarks made by the Italian’s agent.
The 30-year-old player is entering the last six months of his contract at Stadio Olimpico, concluding a five-year tenure in Rome during which he accumulated over 130 appearances and secured the Europa Conference League title.
The discussion about Spinazzola’s future at Jose Mourinho’s club has gained attention, with reports in Italy suggesting that Roma is planning to address the situation this month to avoid the risk of losing the 2020 European Championships winner on a free transfer at the end of the season.
As reported by the Italian outlet La Roma, Arsenal and European contenders Aston Villa are both interested in acquiring the services of defender Leandro Spinazzola.
The left-back role has undergone alterations during Mikel Arteta’s tenure at the Emirates Stadium, with Kieran Tierney initially filling the position in the early stages of the Spaniard’s time in North London.
Subsequently, Arteta brought in Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior, but both players have faced challenges with injuries and form since joining Arsenal. Recent reports indicate that Spinazzola is the latest target to address the left-back position for the Gunners.
Amidst the ongoing speculations surrounding the full-back, it seems that the 30-year-old, who is set to turn 31 in March, is on the verge of departing Roma. Recently, the intentions of the Italian’s agent, Davide Lippie, regarding his client, have been outlined.
“There’s no chance for a contract renewal,” he told SportItalia. “We’ll wait and see how things develop during the January transfer market, otherwise his contract will expire in June and he’ll become a free agent.”
The January transfer window shuts on February 1 at 11 pm, marking the end of the mid-season transfer period before the summer window reopens in June.
