Arsenal could rip up the contract of huge flop if no buyer emerges
Arsenal is contemplating ending Nicolas Pepe’s contract if he doesn’t manage to transfer to another club before the upcoming season begins.
Pepe, who became Arsenal’s most expensive signing in 2019, has faced difficulties in making a notable impression during his tenure at the Emirates Stadium.
Considered unnecessary by the end of the previous season, he was loaned to Nice for the current season, where he didn’t show significant improvement. As a result, his prospects of getting another chance at Arsenal have greatly diminished.
After Nicolas Pepe returns to the club in the summer, Arsenal will actively try to find him a new team. However, if they fail to secure a suitable offer, there is a chance that Arsenal might opt to pay the remaining portion of his contract, enabling him to leave the club. Journalist Paul Brown has put forward this possibility.
“If Arsenal need space in the squad and there are no suitable offers for Pepe, then it is possible that Arsenal will simply pay off his contract,” Brown stated in an interview with Give Me Sport.
“It’s clear he doesn’t have a future at the club. I doubt Arsenal want him lingering until his contract expires.”
The decision to sign Nicolas Pepe for a record fee is widely regarded as one of the most questionable signings made by Arsenal. Despite being given a significant amount of time, Pepe has failed to demonstrate his value as an attacker.
Even during his loan spell at Nice, he was unable to make a significant impact. Considering these circumstances, it is understandable that there is a reluctance to provide him with another opportunity to play for the club.
