Arsenal face losing three players on free transfer ahead of January transfer window

Arsenal is at risk of parting ways with three valuable players worth millions as Jorginho, Mohamed Elneny, and Cedric Soares are nearing the conclusion of their contracts and could potentially leave on free transfers.

According to the most recent data from TransferMarkt, the trio holds a collective value of £20 million, and their potential departure on free transfers could result in financial losses for Arsenal.

Jorginho, aged 31, was acquired by Arsenal in January on a two-year contract in a £12 million deal with Chelsea. This signing took place as an alternative to Moises Caicedo for the remaining part of the 2022/23 season.

Jorginho’s status within the team declined after Arsenal secured the services of Declan Rice during the summer, causing him to move down the pecking order.

Yet, an injury to Thomas Partey and uncertainties surrounding his long-term future have led to increased playing time for Jorginho. Reportedly valued at £13 million, his potential sale could substantially enhance Mikel Arteta’s transfer budget if a buyer can be secured.

However, come January, Jorginho will have the freedom to engage in negotiations with foreign clubs for a pre-contract, allowing him to depart from the Emirates on a free transfer the following summer.

It’s worth noting that there is an option for his contract to be extended by an additional year, providing Arsenal with the opportunity to command a transfer fee for the player.

Jorginho has already been linked with potential moves to clubs such as Lazio, AC Milan, and his former team Napoli. Arsenal faces the risk of losing out on a transfer fee for Portuguese defender Cedric Soares as well. Soares initially joined the club in January 2020 on a temporary basis from Southampton, and his move became permanent later that summer.

However, he has only made 33 Premier League appearances for Arsenal, spending the second half of the last season on loan at Fulham. Since his return to the Gunners, he has featured in just one competitive match, which was in the EFL Cup victory over Brentford. Despite being valued at £2.6 million, a potential deal could be within reach for many European clubs.

The third player who might depart Arsenal without a transfer fee is Mohamed Elneny.

The Egyptian midfielder, the longest-serving player at the North London club, arrived seven years ago. Elneny, valued at around £5.35 million, has made three brief appearances for Arsenal this season.

However, given his history of past injury problems, securing a fee of that magnitude for him could prove challenging for the Gunners.
