Over the weekend, Arsenal won 2-0 against Newcastle United and maintained their chances of winning the Premier League title.

Although their trip to Tyneside was said to be their toughest challenge out of the remaining four fixtures, Mikel Arteta’s team emerged victorious.

Martin Odegaard scored a goal before half-time, and Fabian Schar scored an own goal shortly after, bringing the Gunners within one point of Manchester City at the top of the league table.

“I think the word to describe it is pride,” Arteta said on the win. “When you have question marks you have to resolve them straight away. When you have the emotions we had last year in that dressing room, you have to feel them again, realise how nasty they are and then find a way to approach the game differently because demands were going to be different from last year.

“The boys did that extremely well so I’m really proud of them.”

Gabriel Magalhaes’ participation in the game against Newcastle United was critical in achieving Arsenal’s first clean sheet in nine matches. Despite concerns about his availability following an injury in their previous game against Chelsea, the defender was included in the starting lineup alongside Jakub Kiwior.

Their defensive efforts played a significant role in securing the victory at St. James’ Park.

William Saliba, the Arsenal defender, has been absent from the team for the past eight matches due to a back injury he sustained during a game against Sporting CP in March. Despite uncertainty about his availability for the upcoming match against Brighton & Hove Albion, it is currently unknown whether he will be ruled out for the remainder of the season.

“Not a lot of progress. He’s feeling better every day but he’s still not been able to have any activity around the first team so we don’t expect him to be with us,” the Spaniard explained.

“We are not there yet today [ruling him out for the season], because we’re always hopeful and players are pushing to play. If that’s the case at some stage we’ll announce it. But hopefully that’s not the case.”

Takehiro Tomiyasu and Mohamed Elneny are both dealing with long-term injuries. Tomiyasu is at risk of missing the beginning of the next season due to his injury, while Elneny has already undergone knee surgery and will be unavailable for the remainder of the current campaign.
