Arsenal icon Thierry Henry threatens to walk off CBS Sports following Tottenham question
Thierry Henry, the celebrated Arsenal player who holds the club’s record for most goals scored, made a playful remark about leaving the CBS Sports studio in response to a question about whether he would have considered playing for Tottenham.
Despite his retirement from football 11 years ago, he remains deeply connected to his former team.
Thierry Henry is a prominent figure in the CBS Sports coverage of the Champions League, and he was displeased when Kate Abdo posed a particularly offensive question.
Abdo said: “Could you ever have played for Spurs?”
To which Henry replied in disgust: “Please, Spurs? I’m leaving. No, no, no. Joking aside, I wasn’t actually joking on that one.
“No – I had the opportunity and I declined.”
Jamie Carragher then said: “Spurs came in for you?” Abdo then added: “For triple the money?”
Henry’s response was coy: “Exactly for what you said and I said ‘no’.”
Carragher was desperate for answers, responding: “Who came in for you, Manchester United? It’s got to be a rival of Arsenal.
Henry then concluded: “No, I won’t say. You can say whatever you say, I will say no all the way.”
During his playing days, Thierry Henry enjoyed competing against Tottenham and was undefeated in 11 north London derbies against them.
In those 11 north London derbies, the Arsenal legend won seven and drew four, scoring a total of five goals.
His famous knee slide celebration after his brilliant solo goal in a 3-0 victory over Tottenham in November 2002 is commemorated by a statue outside the Emirates Stadium.
Additionally, one of the defining moments of Henry’s career came when Arsenal clinched the Premier League title at White Hart Lane, the home ground of Tottenham, in 2004.
