Arsenal include Jurrien Timber in Champions League squad

Arsenal have included Jurrien Timber in their Champions League squad for their upcoming last-16 clash against Porto later this month.

The 22-year-old defender, who signed with the Gunners from Ajax for a rumored £38m last summer, committed to a long-term contract until June 2028.

Despite his promising talent, Timber faced a setback with an ACL injury during his Premier League debut in August last year.

Following surgery, he underwent an extensive rehabilitation process.

Arsenal has hinted at the possibility of Jurrien Timber making a return before the season concludes by including him in their Champions League squad for the latter part of the campaign.

Timber missed out on inclusion in Arsenal’s initial Champions League squad for the first half of the season, resulting in his absence from all six of the Gunners’ group-stage matches.

Despite this setback, Arsenal secured 13 points from four wins and a draw in Group B, securing their place as group winners ahead of PSV Eindhoven, Lens, and Sevilla.

The team is set to face Porto in Lisbon for the first leg of their last-16 tie on February 21, followed by the second leg at the Emirates Stadium on March 12.

Should Arsenal advance past Porto across both legs, 90min suggests that Timber may be poised for a return to the first-team setup in time for the Champions League quarter-finals in April.
