Arsenal now enter talks to sign £24m player who can play in two defensive roles
According to Sacha Tavolieri, Arsenal and Leicester City are currently in discussions regarding a potential transfer of Timothy Castagne during the summer.
Arsenal’s right-back, Takehiro Tomiyasu, is currently recovering from knee surgery and may not return to the team until September, leaving the Gunners in need of a replacement.
Additionally, Tomiyasu might participate in the Asian Cup from January to February, further motivating Arsenal to seek a new right-back.
Tavolieri reports that Castagne is being considered as an alternative to Ivan Fresneda, and negotiations are ongoing between Arsenal and Leicester to reach an agreement.
Despite facing challenges during his time at Leicester City, Timothy Castagne has the opportunity to prove himself through a fresh venture.
He could serve as a capable backup for Ben White and potentially provide cover for the left-back position, considering the potential departure of Kieran Tierney, who desires regular first-team football. Last season, Castagne maintained an average of 2.4 tackles and 2.5 clearances per game, showcasing his defensive abilities.
While Transfermarkt currently values him at £24 million, his price may be lower due to Leicester’s relegation. If Arsenal can secure his services for around £15 million, it would be considered a smart business move.
While some Arsenal fans may prefer the signing of Real Valladolid’s Fresneda, he lacks experience at the highest level.
Considering Arsenal’s return to the Champions League next season, manager Mikel Arteta might lean towards an experienced acquisition.
