Arsenal player called ‘a problem’ as future Emirates stay now in doubt
The future of Nuno Tavares, who plays as a left-back for Arsenal, seems uncertain as he had a disappointing loan period at Marseille this season where he was sent to demonstrate his abilities.
Nuno Tavares has been struggling to maintain a consistent performance in the last fifteen games, which has left the fans of Marseille frustrated. Eric Di Meco, a former player, has expressed his exasperation on the Football Club de Marseille program.
“I have a problem with this boy because when you look at his season, he is absent from the big games. He has too many defensive weaknesses and unfortunately when you come across good players in front, it’s complicated,” Di Meco said.
Apart from his poor performances on the pitch, Nuno Tavares has also faced some off-field issues. According to reports, he had a disagreement with the Marseille coach Igor Tudor, who removed him from a training session for not putting in enough effort. This incident is said to have caused a significant deterioration in their relationship.
Nuno Tavares faced further issues during a game against Auxerre where coach Tudor expressed his frustration with the player’s lack of defensive effort. In a recent match against Lens, Tavares failed to make amends, adding to the coach’s disappointment.
La Provence reports that Marseille President Pablo Longoria has decided against negotiating with Arsenal to bring Tavares back to the club, indicating that his time at Marseille may be coming to a close.
As Nuno Tavares prepares to return to Arsenal at the end of the season, there are uncertainties surrounding his future with the club. Given his inconsistent performances and off-field issues, it remains to be seen whether he will be able to secure a place in the Gunners’ squad or if he will be sent out on loan again. Tavares and Arsenal will both have to consider their options carefully.
Tavares was signed by Arsenal in the summer of 2021 from S.L. Benfica. He was born on January 26, 2000, in Lisbon, Portugal, and started playing football at a young age. He eventually joined Benfica’s youth academy in 2015.
Nuno Tavares progressed through the ranks at Benfica and made his senior team debut during the 2019-20 season. He was highly regarded for his attacking instincts, versatility, and ability to play both as a left-back and a right-back. Across his time at Benfica, Tavares played 41 matches, scoring one goal and providing seven assists.
Tavares was also a part of Portugal’s Under-18, Under-19, and Under-21 teams. His performances at Benfica attracted the attention of various European clubs, including Arsenal, who were looking for a left-back to provide competition and cover for Kieran Tierney.
In July 2021, Arsenal signed Nuno Tavares to a long-term contract for a reported fee of around £7 million. Arsenal fans were excited about the young Portuguese defender’s arrival, but his inconsistent performances and subsequent loan spell at Marseille have raised doubts about his future at the club.
