Arsenal punished by the FA for actions during a cup match against Oxford United
This month, Arsenal were fined £40,000 for failing to control their players during the FA Cup third round match against Oxford United.
When Albert Sambi Lokonga’s shot was blocked by Elliott Moore in the 34th minute of the match at the Kassam Stadium, Gunners players surrounded referee David Coote and appealed for handball.
Coote indicated a corner kick, but was immediately confronted by the irate away players.
The facilities at the League One club’s stadium did not support VAR, so it was not utilized.
A FA declaration read: “Arsenal FC was fined £40,000 after its players surrounded a match official during Monday, January 9, 2023’s FA Cup match against Oxford United FC.
“Arsenal FC denied The FA’s allegation that the club failed to ensure its players behaved in an orderly manner during the 34th minute. The club also requested a hearing.
“Subsequently, an independent Regulatory Commission upheld the accusation and fined the club. The written explanations for these decisions will be made public in due time.”
On January 3, the Gunners were charged with a similar offense following their Premier League match against Newcastle at home.
In that instance, they surrounded referee Andy Madley after he failed to award a penalty for what they perceived to be a handball by Jacob Murphy during the final moments of the Premier League match at the Emirates.
In addition, they were fined £40,000 for the incident.
Arsenal FC has been fined £40,000 for violating FA Rule E20.1 during its Premier League match against Newcastle United FC on January 3, 2023.
“Arsenal FC acknowledged that it failed to ensure its players maintained order in the final minute of the game. During a subsequent hearing, an independent Regulatory Commission imposed the club’s sanction.”
