Arsenal ready to sell striker Eddie Nketiah to help fund their bid to sign £87m forward
Arsenal is closely monitoring Sporting Lisbon’s rising star Viktor Gyokeres for a potential transfer, as reported by TEAMTalk.
Gyokeres, who outpaced Everton to secure a move to Sporting Lisbon from Coventry City in the summer, has made an impressive start, scoring 15 goals in 17 appearances this season.
His stellar performance has put several teams, including those in the Premier League, on high alert.
According to journalist Ekrem Konur via TeamTalk, Arsenal, along with Newcastle United and Fulham, are three Premier League teams closely observing the 25-year-old Swedish striker.
According to Football Transfers, Arsenal is considering selling striker Eddie Nketiah to generate funds for their pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres in 2024, as part of their efforts to comply with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations.
Despite Nketiah’s decent performance since joining the first-team squad, Arsenal recognizes that he may not possess the quality required to serve as their primary goal-scoring option. Consequently, the club is open to parting ways with the 24-year-old, a product of their academy.
If a suitable bid is received, Arsenal is willing to sell Nketiah in January and intends to use the funds to secure the services of another striker, with Gyokeres emerging as a serious contender for the role.
Arsenal has been linked with various targets, including Dusan Vlahovic from Juventus, Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, as well as Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen.
Arsenal might prioritize a move for Gyokeres due to his prior experience in English football, considering him a potentially more cost-effective option compared to their other targets.
Although Sporting Lisbon inserted a release clause of approximately £87 million in Gyokeres’ contract when he signed in the summer, it seems improbable that any club would be willing to pay such a substantial amount for the striker.
Additionally, Coventry City holds a significant percentage in sell-on fees, creating an incentive for Sporting Lisbon to aim for a profitable deal when they decide to sell the Swedish striker.
This dynamic adds another layer of complexity to the potential transfer.
Viktor Gyokeres; a quality striker
Despite an outstanding season with Coventry City in the Championship, where Viktor Gyokeres scored 21 goals and propelled his team to the playoff final, it was surprising that many clubs did not actively pursue his signature.
The Sweden international’s prolific performance earned him a transfer to Sporting Lisbon, where he has maintained a low profile while consistently delivering impressive results. In his 17 appearances for Sporting Lisbon, Gyokeres has scored 15 goals and provided seven assists.
Given his continued excellence, it is widely anticipated that Gyokeres may not remain with Sporting Lisbon for an extended period. Arsenal is now reportedly considering a move to bring him back to England, seeking to enhance their attacking options with the talented striker.
