Arsenal regular starter tells team-mates he’s considering leaving the club
Granit Xhaka, a player for Arsenal, has informed his colleagues that he is interested in returning to Germany.
In 2016, Granit Xhaka joined Arsenal from Borussia Monchengladbach for a transfer fee of approximately £34 million.
During his time at Arsenal, he has experienced both successes and setbacks, and on two occasions, he has almost made a move back to Germany.
One of those times was in 2020 when he expressed interest in joining Hertha Berlin after Mikel Arteta took over as manager, but Arteta was able to persuade Xhaka to stay with the club.
Despite his previous difficulties, Xhaka has improved his performance at Arsenal and has been playing well for the team this season. Nevertheless, Xhaka’s current contract with the club is set to expire in just 14 months, and he desires to move to a location nearer to his home country.
According to GOAL, Bayer Leverkusen has expressed their interest in signing Xhaka, and he has informed his colleagues of his desire to return to Germany. However, rather than paying a transfer fee this summer, the Bundesliga club is reportedly interested in reaching a pre-contract agreement with Xhaka to sign him in 2024.
Despite Xhaka’s desire to leave, Arteta is keen to retain him on the team due to his leadership qualities and versatility in midfield. However, Arsenal’s interest in signing West Ham captain Declan Rice during the upcoming transfer window could impact Xhaka’s playing time. West Ham reportedly values Rice at around £120 million, but Arsenal considers him to be worth closer to £70 million.
