Arsenal set new Premier League record with 5-0 win over Wolves
Arsenal concluded the Premier League season by achieving the highest number of goals scored in a single campaign, following their 5-0 victory against Wolves on Sunday.
Despite already securing second place in the Premier League before the final day, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal team achieved a personal milestone by surpassing their previous record for goals scored in a Premier League season.
Their resounding 5-0 victory over Wolves at home enabled them to finish the campaign with a total of 88 goals.
This surpassed their previous best of 87 goals scored during the 2004-05 season, when Arsene Wenger’s squad finished as runners-up to Chelsea.
In what could possibly be Granit Xhaka’s last appearance for Arsenal, he made a significant impact by scoring two goals early in the match for the Gunners. Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, and Jakub Kiwior also found the back of the net, sealing the victory for Arsenal.
After the match, Mikel Arteta took the opportunity to address Arsenal’s supporters directly on the pitch at the Emirates Stadium. He encouraged the fans to embrace and relish the ongoing process, urging them to “enjoy the journey” as the club continues to pursue their first Premier League title since 2004.
“Together we have reconnected the soul of this football club and the soul of this football club is you guys,” Arteta said.
“We know what is our destination to bring success, joy and trophies to this club but in the meantime please enjoy the journey.
“Thank you for your trust, patience and the unconditional love you are showing to the team, staff and the club.”
