Arsenal star misses his fourth successive penalty for his national team – ‘His style of taking spot-kicks just does not work anymore’

Jorginho faced disappointment once again as he failed to convert his fourth consecutive penalty for his national team in their European Championship qualifier on Friday night.

Despite this, the Italians are now just one point away from securing qualification for next year’s European Championships following a dominant 5-2 victory against North Macedonia.

The Azzurri had a strong start, with Matteo Darmian opening the scoring with a header at the back post.

Federico Chiesa extended their lead to 3-0 with a brace just before halftime. Despite North Macedonia’s attempt at a comeback with Jani Atanasov scoring twice, goals from Giacomo Raspadori and Stephan El Shaarawy secured a comfortable lead for the Italians.

Jorginho had the opportunity to contribute to a more decisive victory in the first half with a penalty, but his lackluster attempt was saved by goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski.

Known for his unconventional penalty run-up and previous success, Jorginho’s recent struggles from the spot have been notable since his penalty miss in the Euro 2020 final against Jordan Pickford.

Beppe Bergomi, a former World Cup winner, strongly criticized the 31-year-old player and advocated for his removal from penalty duty.

“With all due respect, Jorginho has to bow down to the evidence here and admit penalties are no longer for him,” he told Sky Sport Italia via the Mirror.

“That style of taking spot-kicks just does not work anymore and today we got confirmation beyond doubt.

“He has to go to the coach and say let someone else take the next one.”
