Arsenal suffer huge injury blow with key player set to miss 7 matches including Man City and Tottenham

Arsenal has received a significant setback in the form of a major injury update, as per Football Insider

Thomas Partey, who suffered a groin injury just before Arsenal’s 3-1 victory over Manchester United before the international break, is expected to remain out of action until after the October international break.

Despite initial hopes for a quick recovery, Arsenal’s manager, Arteta, confirmed during his pre-match press conference on Friday that Partey is still several weeks away from being fit for selection.

Unfortunately, the Ghanaian midfielder will be absent for Arsenal’s upcoming match at Goodison Park, and Football Insider reports that he is likely to spend another four weeks on the sidelines, delaying his return until mid-October, following the international break.

Arteta expressed this on Friday. “He’s still a few weeks away.

“He’s got a muscle injury and he’s progressing well but he’s still a few weeks away,” the Spaniard said via Arsenal.com.

In addition to his absence for Sunday’s match against Everton, Thomas Partey is expected to miss several crucial fixtures for Arsenal. This includes the Champions League matches against PSV and Lens, as well as Premier League encounters with Tottenham, Bournemouth, and Manchester City.

Furthermore, he won’t be available for the Carabao Cup game against Brentford.

Since joining Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in October 2020, Partey has been plagued by injuries. Despite these setbacks, he has managed to make 188 appearances, scoring 16 goals and providing 12 assists across all competitions.

His contributions were instrumental in helping Arsenal secure a coveted Champions League qualification, a significant achievement after several seasons without it.

Unlucky with injuries

During the previous season, Thomas Partey emerged as one of the standout players for Arsenal, and his contributions played a pivotal role as the North London club came close to winning the Premier League title, ultimately finishing in 2nd place in the league table. Over the course of the season, the midfielder made an impressive 40 appearances and scored three goals in various competitions.

In the current season, Partey has already featured in four matches for Mikel Arteta’s team, and Arsenal remains unbeaten in the Premier League, accumulating 10 points out of a possible 12.

Partey was instrumental in Arsenal’s victory in the Community Shield, where they defeated Manchester City in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw.

One of Partey’s notable attributes is his versatility, as he is capable of playing in multiple positions.

He has demonstrated his ability to perform as a defensive midfielder, central midfielder, attacking midfielder, and even in the unconventional role of an inverted right-back this season.

Arteta made the decision to deploy Partey in the unfamiliar right-back position after the arrival of summer signing Declan Rice from West Ham. Arteta’s preferred midfield trio for this campaign comprises Rice, Martin Ødegaard, and Kai Havertz.
