Arsenal Transfer: Arthur Okonkwo attracting transfer interest, exit more likely now
According to journalist Charles Watts, it has been disclosed that Arsenal’s young goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo is expected to depart from the club during the upcoming summer transfer window. Okonkwo’s performances have apparently attracted interest from clubs in both England and Germany, which has raised the likelihood of his departure from Arsenal.
It is anticipated that Mikel Arteta and his team at Arsenal will have a busy summer transfer window, as they are expected to make several new signings. In order to acquire their targets, such as Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo, it might require a substantial investment of £200 million.
However, alongside the potential arrivals, there will also be departures from the club, with Granit Xhaka being one player likely to generate around £13 million through his move to Bayer Leverkusen.
In addition to Xhaka, Arsenal will also offload other less prominent players. It appears that 21-year-old goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo could be among the list of summer departures. According to the journalist speaking on his YouTube channel, Okonkwo has garnered attention both domestically and internationally due to impressive loan spells, which have caught the eye of various observers.
He explained (5:40): “Arthur Okonkwo, obviously the very young goalkeeper at Arsenal – very highly rated.
“My understanding is there’s lots of interest in him this summer. A move looks very likely, he’s had a very good loan spell – two very good loan spells in fact.
He added (6:27): “He’s caught the attention of a lot of clubs, both in England, but abroad as well, especially in Germany; I believe there’s lots of interest in him. he’s only got a year left on his contract.”
Who is Arthur Okonkwo?
During the previous summer, the goalkeeper embarked on a loan spell at Crewe Alexandra. Subsequently, in January, he moved to Austria to conclude the season with Sturm Graz.
His impressive performances during that time have garnered attention from potential suitors in both countries, according to the latest report by Watts.
Throughout his loan spells, he showcased his skills by making 26 appearances for Crewe Alexandra in League Two, achieving 10 clean sheets. In the Austrian Football Bundesliga, he played 14 matches, with only four losses and the remaining games resulting in victories. He also secured four clean sheets.
Although he has represented England at the under-18 level, Okonkwo is eligible to play for Nigeria as well. He has been associated with Arsenal since he joined the Hale End Academy at the age of eight. However, he is yet to make a competitive senior appearance for the Gunners, although he has participated in preseason matches.
Given that Aaron Ramsdale and Matt Turner currently rank higher in the goalkeeper pecking order, he may perceive that his career prospects would improve by departing this summer. Moving to a new club would offer him the assurance of consistent playing time, which he might consider beneficial for his development.
