Arteta could finally bin Nketiah as Arsenal eye swoop for “brilliant” £9m goal-scorer – opinion

Arsenal is rumored to have shown interest in a Serie A forward as they prepare for the upcoming transfer window. Manager Mikel Arteta is keen on strengthening his squad to enhance their chances of competing for the title this summer.

The Gunners have allegedly been pursuing this player for some time and might now decide to secure a deal with him.

The club is actively seeking to expand their squad depth in order to narrow the distance between themselves and reigning champions Manchester City.

Latest on Antonio Sanabria to Arsenal

According to La Stampa (via Sports Witness), Torino striker Antonio Sanabria is a target for Arsenal in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The report suggests that the player’s price tag of €10m (£9m) is not considered a deterrent for clubs interested in acquiring the services of the prolific forward.

Arsenal, in particular, has a longstanding interest in Sanabria and has been monitoring his progress for quite some time. In fact, the connection between the club and the player dates back over a decade, with the Gunners previously attempting to sign him when he was a teenager.

Raised in the renowned youth system of La Masia, Antonio Sanabria showed great promise from an early age, evident in his impressive goal-scoring record throughout his career. With 27 goals in La Liga and 32 goals in Serie A, according to Transfermarkt, the 27-year-old forward could be a valuable addition to Mikel Arteta’s plans, providing the desired depth for the upcoming season.

Although Eddie Nketiah showcased his talent and filled in admirably for the injured Gabriel Jesus, he currently occupies the third-choice forward position at Arsenal, behind the aforementioned Brazilian and newly signed Leandro Trossard.

However, if Sanabria joins the club, his arrival as an established goal scorer could potentially push the 24-year-old Nketiah further down in the pecking order.

This season, Antonio Sanabria has been highly influential for Torino in Serie A, directly contributing to 16 goals. He has scored 12 goals himself and provided four assists, which is a commendable achievement for a team positioned in the mid-table, according to data from Sofascore.

Eddie Nketiah, on the other hand, has faced criticism at Arsenal for not being clinical enough in front of goal. In terms of average non-penalty goals per 90 minutes, Nketiah falls short compared to Sanabria, with 0.34 compared to the Paraguayan’s 0.41, as reported by FBref.

Mikel Arteta may consider bringing in a seasoned player like Sanabria to improve the efficiency in Arsenal’s attacking third. The team has faced criticism from former player Paul Merson for not scoring crucial goals, particularly the so-called “scrappy goals,” when it matters the most, as reported by GIVEMESPORT.

Antonio Sanabria has received high praise from Roma legend Francesco Totti, who described him as “brilliant.” In Mikel Arteta’s quest to narrow the gap on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, who possess an extraordinary amount of quality in their squad, Sanabria could be the missing piece that completes the puzzle.

As the transfer window approaches, Arteta needs to act swiftly to secure the services of Sanabria, considering the possibility of acquiring a talented goal scorer at a reasonable price. This potential move would likely result in Eddie Nketiah being replaced and departing from the club.
