Alan Brazil firmly believes that Arsenal should acquire a striker.

During the latest summer transfer window, Arsenal made substantial investments.

They set a new club record by spending £105 million to secure Declan Rice’s services. Additionally, they added defender Jurrien Timber and goalkeeper David Raya to the Emirates Stadium.

Kai Havertz was also signed to fill a midfield role left vacant after Granit Xhaka’s departure.

Mikel Arteta failed to secure the services of a dedicated striker. While the focus on strengthening the defense has proven successful, with Arsenal conceding only ten Premier League goals this season, there is a noticeable absence of a prolific goal-scorer to lead the team’s attack.

Gabriel Jesus has been plagued by injury issues, and his goal-scoring prowess may not be sufficient to spearhead a title-winning Premier League attack. Similarly, doubts surround Eddie Nketiah’s ability to consistently perform at the highest level.

According to reports from The Mirror, there is a keen interest from Arsenal to acquire Brentford striker Ivan Toney in the upcoming January transfer window. This speculation indicates Arteta’s acknowledgment of the team’s deficiency in the striking department.

Will Arsenal come to rue not signing a striker in the summer?

Alan Brazil has expressed concern that Arsenal might face repercussions this season due to the absence of a top-tier goalscorer.

During a talk on talkSPORT (15/11/2023, 06:43), the former forward remarked, “rather than buying a goalkeeper, he should have bought a centre-forward I think…Who is the centre forward for Arsenal who’s going to fire them past Manchester City? Come on, look at the games this year, who’s going to score the goals that will score the goals, I haven’t seen it yet.”

When asked who he feels Arsenal need to take their attack to the next level, Brazil replied, “I don’t know, that’s Arteta’s job. He’s got to find a striker. I’d have bought the boy from Brentford [Toney].”

According to Sky Sports, Brentford has now set a £100 million price tag on Ivan Toney. To facilitate a move for the 27-year-old striker, Arsenal would likely need to offload several players.

Alan Brazil poses an intriguing question, questioning whether Mikel Arteta’s decision to sign goalkeeper Raya in the summer was the wisest choice.

Although Raya was initially brought in on a season-long loan, Arsenal is anticipated to pay £27 million to secure his permanent stay. Given the presence of Aaron Ramsdale in the team, Brazil suggests that acquiring a new striker might have been a more judicious addition than bringing in another goalkeeper.
