Bruno Guimaraes handed ban after what he did v Arsenal
The main discussion at the halftime was about whether two crucial players from each team should have stayed in the game.
Kai Havertz, the Arsenal forward, made contact high on Sean Longstaff’s ankle but only received a yellow card despite leaving the ground.
Anthony Gordon, Fabian Schar, and Longstaff were all cautioned for disputing the decision to let Havertz stay on the field.
This choice briefly reduced Newcastle to 10 players as Longstaff had to leave the pitch for treatment.
“We were close to the incident, I thought it was high and potentially dangerous,” Howe said on Havertz’s challenge.
“He was lucky to get a yellow. There was a lot of yellow cards and I don’t think there needed to be – it wasn’t a dirty game but there were a few flash points.”
Just before halftime, Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes seemed to make contact with his forearm into the back of Jorginho, causing the Arsenal player to fall to the ground.
Both of these incidents were reviewed by VAR, but the decisions made on the field, or the lack of a decision in Guimaraes’ case, remained unchanged.
However, despite this, Guimaraes received his fifth yellow card of the season towards the end of the game, leading to a one-match suspension. Consequently, he won’t be available for the upcoming weekend’s match against AFC Bournemouth.
