Bukayo Saka set for quadruple pay rise in a new Arsenal deal that will make him top earner
Bukayo Saka is about to sign a long-term contract with Arsenal that will quadruple his income and become him the club’s highest-paid player.
Saka joined the North London club when he was seven years old, but his contract was set to expire in the summer of 2024, less than 15 months away. He is now expected to prolong his stay with the Gunners until 2028.
Following his disappointment at Euro 2020, the England international led the Gunners in Premier League scoring with 11 goals as they nearly missed the top four.
Saka has already surpassed that mark this season after scoring two goals in Arsenal’s 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace last time out.
Saka has already scored 12 Premier League goals this season, establishing himself as standout star in the club’s surprise title bid. Mikel Arteta’s squad, which hasn’t finished in the top four since 2016, is flying high at the top of the table this season.
Saka has been instrumental in the Gunners’ recent success, scoring 13 goals and contributing 10 assists so far this season. In December, he scored three goals for England during their run to the quarterfinals in the World Cup.
The versatile forward presently makes £70,000 per week, but that is expected to increase to £300,000 per week, according to The Sun. This contract would make Saka the highest-paid player at the club, topping the weekly salary of £250,000 paid to forward Gabriel Jesus, who signed in the summer from Manchester City.
The previous contract of playmaker Mesut Ozil, which was valued at £350k per week, still holds the club record for highest weekly salary. Nonetheless, this is an indication of the confidence shown in Saka by Arteta and Edu.
The contract will bind Saka to the North London club for an additional five seasons. It follows the recent extension given to Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli, which is slated to last until 2027.
