Declan Rice breaks silence after Arsenal injury scare amid worrying update ahead of Liverpool

Declan Rice, since his £105million move from West Ham to Arsenal in the summer, has been a consistent starter in every Premier League match.

However, there is a possibility that this pattern may change in the upcoming weeks.

Mikel Arteta has integrated Rice into the squad seamlessly, with him completing the full 90 minutes in 17 out of the 21 league games.

In four instances where he didn’t complete the full game, Rice was substituted twice due to injury concerns.

The first occurrence was during the 2-2 draw against Tottenham in the North London Derby, and the second happened in the recent 5-0 victory against Crystal Palace.

Despite contributing with an assist for Arsenal’s opening goal in the Crystal Palace match, Rice had to be substituted off on the 73rd minute due to a reported hamstring issue, as communicated to Emile Smith Rowe.

Gabriel Magalhaes, who also received treatment later in the game, was subbed off eight minutes after Rice, with no risks taken as Jakub Kiwior came on.

After the match, Arteta provided an immediate update on both players, expressing potential heightened concern regarding Rice’s condition.

“He [Rice] was feeling some tightness,” the Arsenal boss said in his post-match press conference. “I don’t know what muscle it was. But when he says that at 3-0 then obviously we don’t want to take any risks.

Similarly, Gabriel Magalhaes experienced discomfort from a tackle in the first half, and Arteta mentioned that he was struggling a bit, making it the opportune moment to substitute him off the field.

Fortunately, Arsenal has a nine-day break before their next match, an away clash against Nottingham Forest, followed by a game against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium the following weekend.

While Declan Rice’s availability for the match against Nottingham Forest remains uncertain and will likely be assessed throughout the upcoming week, the 24-year-old has given his first public comment since being withdrawn due to injury.

In response to Ivan Toney’s Instagram post celebrating his goal for Brentford, Rice replied with “yesssir [flame emoji].”

Arteta’s optimism hinges on Declan Rice’s potential return for the early February clash against Liverpool, at the very least.

In case Rice is unavailable, Jorginho stands ready to fill in at the City Ground during the Nottingham Forest game. On the other hand, there are clear alternatives to replace Gabriel if he is indeed injured.

Jakub Kiwior has demonstrated his ability to step in, and the Poland international is likely eager for an extended run in the team, reminiscent of the opportunities he received in the late stages of the 2022/23 season when William Saliba was absent.
