Emmanuel Adebayor makes Arsenal wish over disgraceful Man City celebration

Emmanuel Adebayor has recently looked back on the controversial goal celebration during his time at Manchester City, which had infuriated Arsenal supporters.

The Togolese striker had already upset fans of his previous club when he transferred from North London to the Etihad in 2009.

When the two teams clashed in Manchester during the fourth Premier League match of the season, visiting fans expressed their displeasure. Adebayor responded by celebrating provocatively, running the entire length of the pitch after scoring against Manuel Almunia.

He concluded his celebration with a knee-slide in front of the away supporters, arms outstretched, reveling in their discomfort.

This celebration triggered a furious reaction, leading the Football Association (FA) to fine the player and impose a suspended two-match ban.

The FA labeled the celebration as ‘unacceptable’ and believed it had the potential to incite a serious public order incident.

This celebration remains a memorable moment in Premier League history. However, the former striker hopes that Arsenal fans have since moved past the intense emotions they once held.

“I don’t think any human being would accept it if people were singing about and insulting your family, especially your mother and father,” he told Sky Sports. “I would do anything for my mother and father.

“It’s behind me now, I hope it is behind them. We all love football. And every once in a while when they see that celebration on television and social media, hopefully now they can laugh it off and move on.”
