‘For sure’: Fabrizio Romano claims Arsenal want to sign £35m star who’s ‘one of the best’ in the world
Fabrizio Romano has shared new information regarding the potential transfer of Joao Cancelo, a player Arsenal is interested in recruiting.
The Gunners have been linked with the Manchester City player for several weeks.
Arsenal aims to strengthen their squad in order to compete for the Premier League title and make a comeback in the Champions League.
Arsenal faced issues with their full-back positions in the previous season, and there are now rumors suggesting that Kieran Tierney might depart from the club. On the other hand, Joao Cancelo’s situation at Manchester City is unclear, as he spent the latter part of the previous season on loan at Bayern Munich.
According to a report from Spanish outlet Sport, there is a possibility that the 29-year-old Cancelo could leave Manchester City in the upcoming summer transfer window for a fee of approximately €40 million (£35 million).
In addition to Arsenal, it seems that Barcelona is also interested in acquiring Cancelo. Fabrizio Romano, in an interview with GiveMeSport, discussed the pursuit of the Portuguese player by both Arsenal and Barcelona.
“For Barcelona, everything is slow because of the financial situation, the Messi priority and the La Liga conversation for Financial Fair Play,” he said.
“Barcelona can’t sign Cancelo this week, for example. But if this is a slow deal, Barcelona will be there. For sure, Cancelo is on Barcelona and Arsenal’s list.”
When a player of Cancelo’s caliber becomes available, it is expected that there will be significant interest from multiple clubs. In addition to Arsenal and Barcelona, reputable sources such as 90Min suggest that Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are also reportedly pursuing Cancelo.
Being regarded as “one of the best full-backs in the world,” Cancelo would undoubtedly be a significant signing for Arsenal.
