Gabriel Jesus discloses why he was‘ disappointed’ after Arsenal’s 4-1 victory over Leeds United

Gabriel Jesus expressed his feeling of being let down after being substituted in the 60th minute, despite putting up an impressive performance in Arsenal’s 4-1 victory over Leeds United.

Having recuperated from a knee injury sustained during the World Cup, Gabriel Jesus made his first start in a Premier League match since November.

In his absence, players like Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Trossard had taken his place, but the recent £45 million signing from Manchester City displayed his capabilities with a stunning performance in Arsenal’s victory over Leeds United.

Jesus scored the opening goal from a penalty in the first half, which was his first goal in 17 games for both club and country. He went on to score his second from a close range shortly before his substitution by Mikel Arteta.

Gabriel Jesus was disappointed as he had a chance to score a hat-trick, but he was taken off. He stated that he is fit enough to play the full 90 minutes and is looking forward to next week’s match against Liverpool.

“Like every player you never disrespect the manager. The Mr, Mikel knows how I appreciate him a lot and how I respect him and the team as well,” Jesus told Arsenal’s official website.

“Obviously every player wants to play the full 90 minutes and I think I’m ready obviously to play more but when there referee came and said you’re going out I was a little bit disappointed because I want to play.

“But of course I respect the mister and respect the other players as well. So it was just 60 minutes but I enjoy it a lot.”

Arteta expressed his delight at seeing his number nine back in action and scoring goals again after being out for a long time due to injury.

He said: “I’m delighted for him. They were all clapping for him and he’s been working so hard the last four or five months with a lot of support obviously from the team and the staff.

“Today he deserved the chance to start and he grabbed the opportunity with a lot of conviction and scoring two very important goals.”
