Gabriel Jesus maintains that he is satisfied to perform in any position that Arsenal requires, even though he initially joined the club with the intention of taking on the No.9 role.

Last summer, the Brazilian made a £45 million switch to the Gunners after featuring in various positions during his time at Manchester City.

Upon his arrival in England from Palmeiras, Gabriel Jesus initially played as a central striker, but under Pep Guardiola’s management at Manchester City, he often operated in wider positions to accommodate Sergio Aguero. During his first season at Arsenal, he managed to score 11 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions, despite being hampered by injuries.

In the current season, the 26-year-old has been partnering with Eddie Nketiah in the Arsenal lineup as Mikel Arteta seeks to make a stronger challenge for the Premier League title.

Additionally, Arsenal is contemplating a move for Brentford forward Ivan Toney during the January transfer window. Brentford is willing to sell him for around £80 million once he becomes eligible again, following an eight-month suspension for breaching betting rules.

Although Gabriel Jesus departed Manchester City for Arsenal primarily to assume the role of the leading forward, the Brazilian national has emphasized his readiness to play in any position required by the team.

“It’s worth pointing out that I’ve been playing a lot of roles at Arsenal, obviously when I chose to move from City to Arsenal, Edu and Arteta spoke to me, and I made it clear that I’d like to play 9,” he said while away on international duty.

“That was Arsenal’s idea, for me to play 9, loose.

“This season has been different, we’ve had injuries and in the last few games I’ve played three up front. For a while, I thought I’d just say I wanted to play 9, but I’m here to help the team. I’m blessed by God to have this talent and the versatility to play in all three forward positions. I prefer not to choose.”
