‘I don’t know what they are playing at’: Callum Wilson aims huge dig at Arsenal title hopes
Callum Wilson, the forward for Newcastle United, took a jab at Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League.
Despite playing in their 2-0 loss to Arsenal, Wilson spoke candidly about the team’s title prospects after the match, in which they were outplayed for much of the game at St. James’ Park.
Despite Manchester City’s current lead in the title race by four points, Arsenal has proven that they are still contenders. Many expected the young team to struggle against Eddie Howe’s side, but they put on an impressive performance, demonstrating that they are not out of the race yet.
Callum Wilson expressed his disappointment in Newcastle’s loss to Arsenal and stated that Arsenal’s hopes of winning the title are now over.
“Obviously it’s frustrating when you’re in the moment, isn’t it? And yeah, we have done it in the past and when you that team away from home and you’re trying to grind a result out, then so be it.”
“They have come and done the same thing and it is frustrating but to be honest the title has already gone anyway, so I don’t know what they are playing at”, he said on BBC Sounds’ Footballer’s Football Podcast.
It is commendable to see Premier League players like Callum Wilson express their opinions, but it is strange to see him making unwarranted attacks on Arsenal. While the hosts may have felt that Arsenal was wasting time and exaggerating fouls, Wilson’s comments about their title chances seem resentful.
Rather than focusing on the game and providing a candid analysis of the opposition’s behavior, it would have been more appropriate for Wilson to concentrate on his team’s performance and areas that need improvement.
