‘I suspect…’: David Ornstein now reacts to claims Arsenal want to sign Victor Osimhen in January

David Ornstein shared his thoughts in response to a question about Arsenal’s prospects of acquiring Victor Osimhen during the upcoming January transfer window.

Despite a promising beginning to the season, the Gunners have been criticized for lacking a top-quality striker.

Mikel Arteta has been advised to secure the services of a new number nine in January, and there have been rumors connecting Osimhen to a potential transfer to the Emirates.

David Ornstein suspects Victor Osimhen is on Arsenal’s wish list but move is unlikely

Victor Osimhen is currently one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe, and there have been strong associations between him and a potential move to Arsenal.

Numerous reports in recent months have suggested that Arsenal has engaged in direct discussions with Napoli’s owner regarding the acquisition of the 24-year-old striker, who is expected to make a transfer in one of the upcoming two transfer windows.

Journalist Steve Kay even asserted on KS1TV that Arsenal has initiated conversations with Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, concerning a prospective move in 2024.

David Ornstein, widely regarded as one of the most trustworthy journalists for Arsenal-related news, was questioned about Osimhen during his recent Q&A session on The Athletic

He indicated that he believes Osimhen may be on Arsenal’s radar, but he expressed skepticism about the likelihood of the Gunners securing his services due to the high price associated with the transfer.

He said: “In terms of price and profile, Adnan, I don’t see Arsenal going for Osimhen. I suspect he is on their list, like he will be for all the top sides.

“As things stand, I don’t think Arsenal are focusing on recruiting a striker in January; my sense is that is more likely to be on the agenda next summer. Things can change, of course… injury, bids for your existing players and other factors.

“However, right now, Arsenal have Jesus, Nketiah and Havertz, as well as goalscoring contributors like Saka, Martinelli, Odegaard and Trossard. They will hope that serves them well this season and then they can look at the situation subsequently.”

Osimhen would be a game-changer for the Gunners

Arsenal presently boasts one of the Premier League’s top squads, which explains their current contention for the title. Nevertheless, when compared to Manchester City, there’s one glaring difference: the absence of a consistent goal-scorer capable of delivering 25 goals a season.

If Mikel Arteta and Edu can successfully acquire a talent like Victor Osimhen in the January transfer window, it has the potential to transform the Gunners into the frontrunners for the Premier League championship.

However, it’s important to acknowledge that Osimhen’s price tag is substantial, and it seems improbable that Arsenal would be willing to break their transfer record again, especially so soon after shattering it with the signing of Declan Rice just six months ago.
