‘I will not sell’ President’s Refusal to Sell Ruins Arsenal’s Plans to Sign ‘Extraordinary’ 27-Goal Striker
Napoli’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has stated that he has no plans to authorize the transfer of Victor Osimhen, who has been linked with Arsenal.
In March, journalist Ciro Venerato had reported that Mikel Arteta was interested in signing him.
However, De Laurentiis appears to be uninterested in selling Osimhen and has rejected any potential offers from Arsenal or other interested parties this summer.
Aurelio De Laurentiis says Arsenal target Victor Osimhen is not for sale
During Thursday’s 1-1 draw between Luciano Spalletti’s team and Udinese, Victor Osimhen scored his 22nd goal of the Serie A season, breaking Samuel Eto’o’s record and becoming the highest-scoring African player in a single season.
Osimhen, who also won the Serie A title after the match, has now scored a total of 27 goals in all competitions. Alessandro Del Piero described Osimhen as “extraordinary” on Sky Italia.
The possibility of Victor Osimhen transferring to Arsenal generated excitement among Arsenal fans, but Napoli’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, delivered disappointing news to them.
“I will not sell Victor Osimhen this summer, no way”, he said, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano.
While the idea of Victor Osimhen joining Arsenal is exciting, the team’s transfer priorities should be elsewhere.
Osimhen would be expensive and could eat up a significant portion of Arsenal’s summer transfer budget.
Additionally, the team needs to focus on improving their midfield by finding an upgrade for Granit Xhaka, finding a reliable backup for Bukayo Saka, and acquiring a right-back who is more attack-minded and available than Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Arsenal’s second-place finish in the league this season was not solely due to Gabriel Jesus’ poor finishing. The team dropped points unnecessarily and gave Manchester City, who were expected to win the league, a chance to claim a third consecutive title.
