Ian Wright fires Man City warning to Arsenal ahead of vital week
Ian Wright has cautioned Arsenal that they need to figure out a method to secure points against Manchester City if they genuinely intend to put an end to their two-decade-long quest for the Premier League championship.
The Gunners maintained their strong beginning to the new season by breaking a long-standing streak against a northwestern team on Sunday.
They secured a 1-0 victory over Everton, courtesy of Leandro Torssard’s second-half goal.
Arsenal is now facing a critical evaluation of their capabilities in the upcoming three weeks, as they have matches against PSV Eindhoven and the in-form Tottenham within the next seven days.
If Mikel Arteta’s team can navigate these fixtures successfully, they will aim to gather more momentum when they face Bournemouth before their clash with the reigning champions at the Emirates Stadium on October 8.
Arteta has not yet experienced a Premier League victory against Pep Guardiola, and Ian Wright believes that his former team must discover a method to overcome the triple winners, who have been flawless in their performances this season.
This is crucial if Arsenal aims to surpass their performance from the previous season.
He told Premier League Productions: “Those three games are big but I wouldn’t say the PSV one so much because it’s a Champions League game, it’s the first one we’re not really into the meat and bones of it yet.
“It’s a big game for Arsenal but then obviously Tottenham and their form which is very very good, so the derby is going to be unbelievable.
“Then it’s Manchester City who I believe if Arsenal have got serious intentions of winning the league they’re going to have to beat them at least once.
“They’re going to have to beat them and beat the teams around them and then hope the other teams are able to cause Man City problems as well because if they don’t beat them at least once it’s going to be very, very difficult to do it.
“You have to get something from them and then build the momentum and confidence in the team so when you get to them, I’m pleased they dug this one out.”
