‘It won’t happen’: Liverpool told there is no possibility of them signing £80m ‘leader’ ahead of Arsenal
Don Hutchinson has expressed his belief that Liverpool would benefit from having Declan Rice in their team during the upcoming summer transfer window. However, Hutchinson does not think that this transfer is likely to occur.
Rice is highly sought-after by Arsenal and Chelsea, with Arsenal currently being considered the frontrunners for his signature.
Liverpool also has a need for new midfielders and, having already secured the signing of Alexis Mac Allister, they are expected to pursue several other new players as well.
Liverpool won’t be signing Declan Rice
According to Don Hutchinson, a former Everton player, there is indeed interest from Liverpool in acquiring Declan Rice.
However, speaking to ESPN, Hutchinson expresses his belief that the transfer is unlikely to materialize. He suggests that Chelsea could be a potential destination for Rice, although he also acknowledges that Rice possesses the skill and ability to thrive in any team he chooses.
“It won’t happen, but Liverpool is an obvious one because they need that profile and that player with dynamism in midfield. A real leader. He was one of the leaders on the pitch in the (Europa Conference League) final,” Hutchinson said.
“He didn’t have his best game, but when Cristiano Biragi was getting pelted, he was the first one over to the West Ham fans telling them to ‘calm down’ and it was bang out of order at what they had done. I think, in terms of ability, he can go anywhere – Chelsea is also a possibility.”
The exorbitant price set by West Ham for Declan Rice makes it highly unlikely for Liverpool to be competitive in the pursuit of his signature.
The financial aspect of the deal is reminiscent of Liverpool’s decision to withdraw from the race to sign Jude Bellingham due to financial constraints. Despite the obstacles, there remains a desire to fantasize for a moment about the prospect of Rice joining Liverpool. He embodies the characteristics of an ideal
for the Reds, possessing a versatile skill set, adept ball control, and the ability to connect with the supporters. However, the reality suggests that Liverpool will not be in contention, and as Hutchinson suggests, Rice will have the luxury of choosing from several appealing options.
