“It’s close” – Fabrizio Romano has just shared big Arsenal update

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Reiss Nelson, a prominent player for Arsenal, is likely to extend his contract with the club, despite rumors suggesting he might leave Emirates Stadium.

Romano exclusively revealed to GIVEMESPORT that although Nelson faced challenges in terms of playing time during the 2022/23 season, he remains capable of making a significant contribution to the Gunners in the upcoming season.

Arsenal transfer news – Reiss Nelson

Nelson’s career at Arsenal seemed to be on track for a dream-like conclusion, as his childhood club was leading the Premier League table and poised to win their first title since the 2003/04 season.

However, Arsenal’s late decline in form prevented them from clinching the title, allowing Manchester City to secure their third consecutive league triumph. This turn of events raised uncertainties about Nelson’s future role at the Emirates Stadium.

According to a report by The Evening Standard, West Ham United and several other Premier League clubs were closely monitoring Nelson’s situation. Furthermore, AC Milan from the continent also expressed interest in acquiring his services.

Complicating matters, Nelson’s contract with Arsenal is set to expire shortly before the transfer window opens, which means he could potentially depart the club, who finished as Premier League runners-up, on a free transfer and seek new opportunities elsewhere.

Despite having only a few weeks remaining on his current contract, there seems to have been a change of plans. Fabrizio Romano now suggests that Nelson is expected to reverse his decision and stay at Arsenal for the foreseeable future.

During his exclusive conversation with GIVEMESPORT yesterday, transfer expert Romano hinted that new contract terms for Nelson could be finalized in the upcoming weeks. This implies that negotiations are underway, and there is a possibility of Nelson signing a new deal with Arsenal in the near future.

On the 23-year-old, Romano said: “It’s close for a four-year deal with one-year options. They are careful in their communication because Arsenal received many approaches from English clubs, from Italian clubs and from French clubs too.”

Nelson has not been a regular starter throughout Mikel Arteta’s tenure at Arsenal. Given this situation, it appeared that leaving the club would be the most logical decision for him at this stage of his career.

In the current season, the London-born player made only 18 appearances across all competitions for Arsenal, managing to score three goals and provide three assists in that time (according to Transfermarkt).

These numbers are not particularly impressive for a player expected to enter his prime years. Therefore, Arsenal supporters will now be hopeful that the player, who had a loan spell at Feyenoord previously, can show significant improvement and make the most of this latest contract extension.

With a new contract extension, it is probable that Nelson will receive a substantial increase from his current £35,000-per-week salary. However, opinions differ on whether it is a wise decision from the Arsenal management to prolong Nelson’s stay in north London. The overall assessment of this move is still up for debate, and there are varying perspectives on whether it is a sensible decision by the club hierarchy.
