Iwobi reveals the best player he has ever played with while at Arsenal
Speaking ahead of Nigeria’s semifinal clash with South Africa at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Alex Iwobi disclosed the identity of the best player he’s ever played with in his career.
Born in Lagos twenty-seven years ago, Iwobi relocated to Turkey with his parents when he was four months old and has been residing in England since the age of one.
The Super Eagles midfielder commenced his professional journey at Arsenal, where he spent fifteen formative years, before securing a permanent transfer to Everton following the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Throughout his tenure with the Gunners, Iwobi featured in 149 matches, notching 15 goals, including a memorable strike against Chelsea in the 2019 Europa League final, marking his farewell game for Arsenal.
The product of Hale End Academy singled out Santi Cazorla as the standout player he has had the privilege of playing alongside, additionally mentioning his partial knowledge of French, acquired through his connections at Arsenal.
Speaking to Voice of Nigeria, Iwobi said: “The best player I have played with is Santi Cazorla when I was at Arsenal.
“I have always been around a lot of French players especially when I was at Arsenal so I’ve learned a few words. Maybe another time I’ll probably try to learn some more.”
Iwobi has participated in the previous sixteen matches contested by the Super Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations and is poised to extend his streak to seventeen appearances against Bafana Bafana on Wednesday evening.
