Jack Grealish delivers ‘honest’ verdict on Arsenal’s performance against Manchester City
Jack Grealish has expressed admiration for Arsenal as a team, even though Manchester City defeated them 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium.
The match was a significant encounter between the Gunners and their opponents in the race for the title, with Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola once again pitting their skills against each other.
City took the lead with an impressive lobbed goal from Kevin De Bruyne, but Bukayo Saka managed to equalize for Arsenal with a penalty kick.
Despite their efforts, Arteta’s team was unable to score and take the lead, and as a result, they suffered when Grealish scored for City.
Erling Haaland then added another goal, enabling City to take the top spot in the Premier League table.
Although Arsenal still have one game left to play, they have only earned one point from their last three matches, which is far from an ideal situation for Arteta and his team.
An upcoming match against Aston Villa this weekend might not be the easiest challenge for Arsenal, but they need to respond like champions would.
It’s normal to feel disappointed after a night like this, and the Arsenal players might face questions about their mindset.
The match was within reach for Arsenal when the score was tied at 1-1, but unfortunately, they ended up with nothing and fell just short to the defending champions.
While one poor result might not be a disaster, three consecutive losses could make some people uneasy. Nonetheless, Arsenal’s performance against City wasn’t entirely bad.
Although they had some defensive weaknesses and were unable to capitalize on their chances at 1-1, they played reasonably well overall.
In fact, even City goalscorer Grealish thinks that Arsenal were “a lot better” than City, but Guardiola’s team had to fight hard and secure the three points.
“If I’m being honest, I don’t think we actually played that well,” said Grealish. “I think Arsenal played a lot better than us, I thought they were the better team. I think so. They had a few chances – I don’t know if it was a penalty, I haven’t really seen it back yet.”
“If you win titles, you’ve got to come to grounds like this. Even when you’re not at your best, you’ve got to win games. That’s what me and Riyad [Mahrez] said to each other on the bench,” he added.
Indeed, Grealish’s comments won’t heal the disappointment of defeat, but they do provide some reassurance that Arsenal are making progress and moving in the right direction.
It’s important for the team to keep doing the right things and maintain a positive mindset as they move forward. With determination and a strong work ethic, Arsenal can bounce back from this setback and continue to improve.
