Jarrod Bowen matches excellent record held by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and Liverpool superstar Mo Salah
West Ham United winger Jarrod Bowen has achieved a remarkable milestone, joining the exclusive club of football greats like Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah.
Jarrod Bowen scored in West Ham’s 4-1 loss to Aston Villa on October 22, bringing his total for the season to six goals and two assists in 10 matches across various competitions.
Notably, five of those goals were scored away in the Premier League this season. This achievement places Bowen in the esteemed company of Thierry Henry and Mohamed Salah, as the only players to score in their first five away league games in a campaign.
Thierry Henry achieved this feat during the 2001-02 season when he netted five goals in five consecutive away games. The French football legend concluded that season as the Premier League’s top scorer with 24 goals in 33 matches.
On the other hand, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah reached this milestone in the 2021-22 campaign, scoring seven goals in five away league matches, which notably included a hat-trick in a dominant 5-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
This accomplishment underscores Jarrod Bowen’s significance to West Ham, which led the club to secure his services with a new seven-year contract earlier in the month.
Despite attracting interest from several Premier League heavyweights like Liverpool and Newcastle United, Bowen opted to extend his stay at the London Stadium.
He has been with David Moyes’ team since 2020 and notably scored the winning goal in their 2-1 victory in the UEFA Europa Conference League final against Fiorentina last season.
Mohamed Salah has earned a well-deserved reputation as one of the Premier League’s most exceptional attackers. Although he primarily operates on the right side of Liverpool’s attack, his remarkable goal-scoring record suggests he possesses the qualities of a top-class striker.
Since joining Liverpool in 2017, the 31-year-old Egyptian icon has amassed an impressive total of 194 goals and 83 assists in 316 appearances across various competitions. He has also claimed the Premier League’s Golden Boot three times, achieving this accolade in the 2021-22, 2018-19, and 2017-18 seasons.
Even former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger shared his perspective on Salah’s prowess in 2020, suggesting that he may be the greatest striker in the world. Wenger expressed this opinion while speaking to beIN Sports.
“He’s top, top class and he’s certainly the best striker at the moment in the world because he scores goals that nobody else can score. Overall, I believe as well that he is very intelligent because the sign of players that always improve is the intelligence.”
During his impressive 22-year tenure at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger had the privilege of managing a prolific striker in the form of Thierry Henry. The French football legend left an indelible mark by scoring 228 goals and contributing 103 assists in 379 appearances for the club.
Given Wenger’s extensive experience with a striker of Henry’s caliber, he undoubtedly possessed an in-depth understanding of what it takes to be considered one of the world’s greatest strikers.
It’s worth noting that while Wenger had the opportunity to work with Henry, he never had the chance to coach the Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah during his managerial career.
