Jorginho exposes truth behind his Chelsea exit
Jorginho, the midfielder for Italy and Arsenal, stated in his interview with DAZN that he departed from Chelsea due to no longer being included in their plans.
He joined the Gunners in a remarkably brief timeframe of less than two days. Jorginho, who had previously played for Napoli and Hellas Verona, signed for Arsenal on the final day of January, departing from their city rivals Chelsea even though his contract had six months remaining.
During Jorginho’s first interview after becoming an Arsenal player in February, he mentioned that one of the reasons he decided to move to North London was Mikel Arteta.
“It’s one of the reasons, surely,” he confirmed to DAZN on Monday.
“He called me and it was all very quick, we made the deal in less than 48 hours. I had spoken to Chelsea and I knew I was no longer part of their plans. I wanted to progress in my career and the Arsenal project suits me.
“It’s a young team that plays good football and fits my characteristics. I considered every scenario and made the decision. Sometimes you must accept when you are out of a project and that things come to an end.”
Jorginho talked about the resemblance between Napoli and Arsenal this season and acknowledged that he was not familiar with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Despite losing 3-1 to Manchester City at home last week, the Gunners are currently leading the Premier League with a two-point advantage over Manchester City and still have a game in hand.
It’s difficult to say whether the defeat against Manchester City will significantly affect Arsenal’s title prospects, as the season is long and unpredictable, and a single match’s outcome does not necessarily determine the eventual league winner.
However, losing to a major rival can be demoralizing, so it remains to be seen how Arsenal will bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.
“No, if you look at the game, it was decided in the penalty boxes,” noted Jorginho.
“You can’t commit certain mistakes against these champions at this level. We made mistakes, and they punished us.
“After the game, I was confident because we played well,” he continued.
“We forced Man City to play long balls and not many teams do that, so it means we did good things. We were disappointed with the result and the mistakes, but we remained calm because we knew we’d made many good things. If we don’t believe in it now, then when?”
According to reports, Jorginho managed to score 29 goals in 213 appearances for Chelsea during his time with the club. He later joined Arsenal in a transfer deal worth €13.5m in January, and his contract with the Gunners is set to expire in June 2024.
