Reports suggest that Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is growing increasingly unhappy with his limited playing time this season, and he may consider leaving the club in January if the situation remains unchanged.

Partey, the Ghanaian international who transferred to Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in October 2020 for a fee of £45 million, arrived with a significant reputation but has been plagued by injuries during his time in North London.

In his first two seasons at the club, Partey only managed to participate in 24 Premier League games.

However, whenever he was fit to play, it was evident how crucial he was to Mikel Arteta’s team. He appeared in 33 top-flight matches last season as Arsenal finished second, with Manchester City winning the treble.

Despite some uncertainty about Partey’s future in the capital following the summer signings of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz, Arteta was quick to express his desire to retain the former Atletico midfielder.

When asked about Partey’s future, the Arsenal manager stated in July: “Thomas is a super important player for us and for me. I want him to be part of the team. That’s for sure.

“Every time I spoke to him and had a conversation with him he’s ready to stay with us. For me, there’s nothing there at all.”

Partey’s on-field contributions have once again been hampered by injuries, and he most recently sat out the midweek Champions League match against Sevilla due to a muscle problem.

The 30-year-old had previously suffered a groin injury in August, which caused him to miss four Premier League matches before making a crucial 15-minute appearance off the bench against Manchester City on October 8.

It’s evident that Arteta is carefully managing Partey’s playing time, as he didn’t bring him off the bench in the game against Chelsea last Saturday.

Despite these circumstances, a report from Tutto Juve indicates that the player is dissatisfied with his current situation at Arsenal. The club is reportedly concerned about Partey’s lack of minutes, and this dissatisfaction is growing within the player and his representatives in recent weeks.

With Partey expressing unhappiness, there is now speculation that he might seek a transfer in the winter transfer window if the situation remains unchanged before January.

Italian giants Juventus were strongly linked with Partey in the summer and are said to still be interested, but they would consider a loan deal if he becomes available in January.

Arsenal transfer expert Charles Watts mentioned earlier this month that there’s a good chance Partey might leave the Gunners at the end of the season as he enters the final year of his contract.

“I do think the time to think about Partey’s exit will be this summer,” Watts said on his YouTube channel. “I don’t know if I would do it.

“But I think it’s certainly something Arsenal will think about given his contract, there is only a year left, given his age and injury record.

“If a good offer comes in for him, it’s kind of similar to what last summer was.

“We knew it was something they were open to if something came in that was tempting. I think that would be the case again this summer [at the end of the season].”
