Latest Arsenal injury update as three miss Sporting CP and huge Gabriel Jesus update emerges
Gabriel Jesus is scheduled to accompany the Arsenal team for their upcoming Europa League match against Sporting Lisbon on Thursday.
The footballer has been absent from Arsenal’s matches since before the World Cup due to a knee injury sustained while playing for Brazil in Qatar.
However, in recent weeks he has been making progress in his recovery, and after Arsenal’s 3-2 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday, he participated in the post-game warm down with the substitutes.
The fact that Jesus took part in the post-game warm down with the substitutes was considered a significant development, and on Wednesday, he participated in complete training with the team at London Colney in preparation for the first leg of their Europa League last-16 encounter against Sporting.
It is anticipated that Jesus will join the travelling squad to Lisbon, with the team scheduled to depart from London on Wednesday afternoon. Although it is uncertain whether he will be selected to play in the match by Mikel Arteta, the mere fact that he will be on the plane is a strong indication that his much-awaited return is nearing.
However, Arsenal has been dealt a setback as Kieran Tierney, the left-back, will not be participating in Thursday’s game due to sickness.
Leandro Trossard, who is suffering from a groin issue, and Eddie Nketiah, who has an ankle problem, will also be absent from the match.
Arsenal, under Mikel Arteta’s leadership, will play against Sporting Lisbon in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie on Thursday night. After that, they will shift their focus to a London derby against Fulham on Sunday.
