Leandro Trossard shares the Arsenal tactic that ‘exploited’ Everton

Leandro Trossard has explained that Arsenal’s primary strategy for overcoming Everton was their frequent use of short corner kicks, which played a pivotal role in their victory at Goodison Park.

Arsenal clinched a hard-earned three points against Everton on Sunday, with Trossard netting the decisive goal in an impressive manner.

Historically, Goodison Park has been a challenging venue for the Gunners, as they hadn’t secured a Premier League victory there since 2017. Additionally, Sean Dyche had proven to be one of Mikel Arteta’s most formidable adversaries.

However, on this particular occasion, Arsenal displayed their superiority over the Toffees. Notably, their approach to corner kicks drew attention, as they opted for short corners on numerous occasions, including the one that ultimately led to the winning goal.

“They [Everton] have a lot of tall guys and they’re good on set-pieces. We wanted to exploit them. We work hard on everything tactically,’ Trossard told Sky Sports post-match.

“It’s always nice to help your team, especially with a winning goal. I think it’s a great action. I called B [Bukayo Saka] and he saw me with a perfect lay-off. It went in perfectly and I’m very happy.

“I’ve been practicing all my life on both feet and you can see it helps you. It’s so helpful if you’re good on both feet – you can go both ways and score off either.

“We knew [about the poor record at Goodison Park] and we wanted to win the game. It’s always a hard game, they give you a hard time but we defended the box well, got a couple of chances and took one of those chances.”

Arteta echoed his winger’s words, telling BBC Sport: “We have to keep finding different weapons to win games. We win a lot of corners and we have to maximise that, for sure.

“It was a long time without a win here. We played a great game, we didn’t give anything away. We dominated the game and created numerous chances. The score should probably have been bigger.

“I really enjoyed this. Against Manchester United, I saw my face after and it was a bit of relief. This was enjoyment.

“The 11 players played really well. We had numerous chances, we were patient and Leandro produced an incredible finish to win the game.”

This outcome elevates Arsenal to the fourth position in the league standings, trailing the league leaders, Manchester City by two points.
