Liverpool identify ideal Joe Gomez upgrade but Arsenal could scupper Jurgen Klopp transfer plan
Liverpool is reportedly contemplating recruiting Devyne Rensch, a highly-regarded right-back from Ajax, who is also attracting interest from Arsenal.
Ajax is currently facing its worst-ever start to a season, having suffered five consecutive losses and currently occupying the bottom position in the Eredivisie.
Despite their struggles, Ajax remains renowned for nurturing exceptional young talents, with Rensch considered one of their finest prospects.
Joining the Ajax senior squad in 2020, the 20-year-old has progressively evolved into one of their key players, amassing 101 appearances, scoring seven goals, and contributing six assists.
Rensch is a versatile player, capable of performing as a defensive midfielder, left-back, or center-back, although his preferred role is as a right-back.
With substantial experience in European competitions, having played 19 matches in the Champions League and Europa League, Rensch’s contract with Ajax extends until 2025, indicating the club’s unwillingness to part with him easily during the upcoming winter transfer window.
As per reports from Football Insider, Liverpool is actively monitoring Devyne Rensch with the potential intent of making an offer during the January transfer window.
Liverpool’s current focus involves scouting right-sided defenders who can seamlessly adapt to Jurgen Klopp’s tactical system and cover various defensive positions, making Rensch an appealing prospect for the team.
The source suggests that Rensch is a prime target for Liverpool’s recruitment team, with rival Premier League club Arsenal also closely observing his progress, indicating potential competition for securing his signature.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s absence due to injury in three games earlier this season led to Joe Gomez stepping in at right-back.
However, it’s rumored that Klopp might not be entirely convinced by Gomez’s performance and is therefore eager to introduce more competition for that position in the upcoming winter transfer window.
Arsenal’s recent acquisition of Jurrien Timber from Ajax for £38 million at the beginning of the season underlines their interest in players akin to Rensch. Timber, like Rensch, possesses the ability to play across various positions in the back four.
Nonetheless, Timber’s serious knee injury sustained before the season’s commencement means he won’t be available until at least February, prompting speculation that Mikel Arteta might consider recruiting a player similar to Timber’s profile, potentially like Rensch.
