Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp praises Arsenal fans for ‘touching’ moment, the best he’s witnessed
After a minute of silence was observed at Anfield to commemorate the 34th anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy, Jurgen Klopp praised Arsenal supporters.
Last week, Liverpool overcame a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against the title-contending Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta’s men forfeited the chance to move eight points ahead of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League standings.
However, the outcome paled in comparison to the Hillsborough tributes that were held prior to the game.
A minute of silence was observed in remembrance of the 97 people who perished as a result of the events that transpired during the FA Cup semi-final on April 15, 1989, against Nottingham Forest.
Also displayed on the Kop was a mosaic depicting the Eternal Flames and the number 97.
Regarding the homage, Klopp stated in his press conference: “It was probably the most respectful minute of silence I have ever witnessed.”
Speaking of the Arsenal fans in particular, the German added: “It was touching, to be honest.”
Liverpool also wore black armbands as a sign of respect, and a commemorative matchday program was distributed.
