Man City midfielder Rodri makes Arsenal admission as title rivals drop points at Liverpool
Rodri asserts that Manchester City is not concerned with Premier League title rivals Arsenal and is instead solely focused on winning games.
Saturday’s 4-1 victory over relegation-threatened Southampton allowed City to maintain pressure on the league’s leaders. This narrowed the gap at the top to less than five points, with Pep Guardiola’s team still having a game in hand before Arsenal’s match against Liverpool.
The Gunners have been resolute in the face of City’s resurgence, but they capitulated at Anfield. They took a two-goal lead but escaped by the skin of their teeth after Liverpool tied the game at 2-2 and Aaron Ramsdale made some incredible saves. Their advantage has grown to six points, but City now controls the title race. However, Rodri insists that the team is not considering their opponents.
“We know what we have to do to win the Premier League,” the Spaniard said. “We have to win every single game until the end. We’re not looking at what Arsenal do, we’re focused on ourselves. If we are able to fight until the end and win every single game, we will have a chance.”
City have scored a remarkable 21 goals in their last four matches after a difficult start to the 2023 campaign. Erling Haaland returned against Southampton and scored two goals, one of which was a spectacular overhead kick.
Rodri has praised both the striker and Jack Grealish, who is in his best form since joining Manchester City for a hefty transfer fee.
“n terms of goals, he’s [Haaland] been a beast this season,” he said. “He does a lot – we have pace and a lot of danger in the area. He’s a special guy. These kinds of players can make the difference at any time. He has the ability and talent to do this.”
On Grealish, Rodri added: “He’s in a big moment right now. He’s making another step forward with assists and goals which is great for the team.”
