Martin Odegaard’s gesture to Leandro Trossard tells volume about Arsenal captain

Martin Odegaard has demonstrated the reason why Mikel Arteta appointed him as Arsenal’s captain by helping new players adapt to the club. Leandro Trossard has shared details about the warm reception he received from the Norwegian midfielder when he joined the team in January.

Martin Odegaard became Arsenal’s captain in the summer of 2021 after Alexandre Lacazette left the club. Prior to this, he had already been named the captain of his national team

Odegaard had an impressive first season at Arsenal, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in the Premier League. However, being given the captaincy has seemingly boosted his performance even further.

While he may not be a particularly vocal captain, Odegaard sets an example for his teammates with his play on the field. Leandro Trossard has disclosed the leadership qualities he demonstrates off the pitch, which are not always captured by the cameras.

Leandro Trossard transferred to Arsenal from Brighton in the middle of the season. Having already played in the Premier League for three and a half years, he was familiar with the league.

However, joining a new team can still be daunting, particularly in the absence of a pre-season period to adapt to the new surroundings. Trossard recognized that he needed to perform well right from the start in a team that was doing well and sitting high in the league table.

According to Trossard, Martin Odegaard played a significant role in helping him settle in as quickly as possible. When asked who his closest friends were at Arsenal, Trossard mentioned that he is particularly close to Kieran Tierney.

Trossard told Sky Sports: “To be honest, Kieran [Tierney]. I’m quite close to him.

“Martin helped me a lot as well. He texted me the first day I arrived if there was anything he could help me with.

“Yeah it’s really nice, that’s what I said. More of the lads said it to be fair and it gives you that confidence that you can settle in quick and it helped me a lot.”

As Martin Odegaard arrived at Arsenal on loan in January 2021, he was familiar with the challenges of adapting to a new club, and therefore understood what Leandro Trossard was experiencing following his transfer.

While it is difficult to quantify the impact of Odegaard’s help, Trossard’s successful integration at Arsenal is a testament to the value of having a supportive teammate.

Feeling comfortable at a new club is crucial for a player’s performance, and Trossard’s impressive stats on the pitch reflect his comfort level. He has settled in quickly and feels at home at Arsenal, as evidenced by his excellent performances.

Trossard has provided a significant number of assists this season, with only Kevin De Bruyne and Bukayo Saka registering more in the Premier League. Furthermore, the fact that the majority of Trossard’s assists have come after he joined Arsenal demonstrates how well he has adjusted to his new surroundings.
