Mesut Ozil fires surprise dig at ‘bottle job’ Tottenham for breaking unwanted record
Mesut Ozil has criticized Tottenham following Ange Postecoglou’s team breaking an undesirable record.
The 35-year-old footballer retired earlier this year, concluding his career that had faltered since a contentious departure from Arsenal.
Ozil, who was once highly regarded in north London after joining from Real Madrid in 2013, became a crucial player for Arsenal, securing a lucrative contract in 2018 before eventually ending his career after a brief stint with Istanbul Basaksehir.
Nevertheless, Ozil lost favor under Unai Emery and faced exile under Mikel Arteta, his former teammate at the Emirates Stadium.
His contract was terminated, enabling him to join Fenerbahce six months before its scheduled conclusion.
Despite the less-than-amicable conclusion to his tenure at Arsenal, Ozil remains observant of developments in north London, seizing the chance to ridicule Tottenham’s recent struggles.

On Thursday night, Spurs suffered a defeat against West Ham, marking them as the first team in Premier League history to hold the lead in five consecutive matches without winning any of them. Additionally, no other team had previously lost three consecutive home games despite scoring first.
Tottenham took the lead in losses against Chelsea, Wolves, and Aston Villa, with Heung-min Son securing an early advantage at the Etihad Stadium before Manchester City came from behind to secure a draw.
Despite dominating the first half against West Ham and leading at halftime with Cristian Romero’s header, Postecoglou’s team conceded goals from Jarrod Bowen and James Ward-Prowse, resulting in a loss in the London derby.
In response to a tweet discussing Spurs’ record-breaking run, Ozil commented, “Who else should be able to break that record? Bottle Job FC is back.”
