Mikel Arteta blocked Arsenal star from sealing surprise loan transfer this summer
Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, apparently intervened to prevent Polish defender Jakub Kiwior from going on loan to Sevilla in the recent summer transfer window.
Arteta’s influence was crucial in retaining Kiwior for this season, despite an unexpected chance for him to depart the Emirates Stadium just months after his arrival.
According to TVP Sport, Sevilla expressed interest in securing Kiwior on loan, but Arteta declined the offer, opting to retain the 23-year-old player. Kiwior has proven himself as a dependable squad member since he joined from Spezia last January.
Arsenal could have potentially benefitted from allowing Kiwior the opportunity to gain more playing time and experience by joining a club like Sevilla.
However, it appears probable that there will still be opportunities for him within Arteta’s first-team this season.
While Arsenal might not possess the same depth as their competitors, such as Manchester City, having a player like Kiwior available to step in at either center-back or left-back is expected to be a valuable option throughout a demanding and extended season.
