Mikel Arteta issues update on ‘very uncomfortable’ Gabriel Martinelli injury
Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Gabriel Martinelli will undergo a scan after sustaining an injury that caused him to be substituted in Arsenal’s loss to Brighton. Currently, Martinelli was seen wearing a protective boot.
The Gunners had a dreadful afternoon at the Emirates, losing 3-0 to the Seagulls, which effectively ended their chances of winning the Premier League title this season. Arsenal’s performance was particularly disappointing in the second half when they allowed Roberto De Zerbi’s team to score all three goals, resulting in a comfortable victory for them.
Moreover, Mikel Arteta was faced with another problem after the game with Gabriel Martinelli sustaining an injury from a tough tackle by Moises Caicedo early in the match.
Gabriel Martinelli had to be substituted just 20 minutes into the game due to a foot injury, and Mikel Arteta confirmed that he will undergo a scan for the injury. At the end of the game, Martinelli was seen wearing a protective boot.
“We don’t know,”Arteta said of the extent of the problem. ‘”H’s in a boot at the moment.
“It was very uncomfortable for him to walk, he couldn’t carry on playing – so obviously we need to scan him and see the extent of that injury.”
Arsenal’s hopes for the title seem to have vanished after a remarkable challenge, marking a significant comedown from their impressive victory against Newcastle last weekend that kept their aspirations alive.
“A really different feeling to the feeling that we all had last Sunday when we felt proud and we felt that we really did what we needed to win in certain moments,’ said the Gunners boss.
“Today is completely the opposite. We have to apologise for to our people especially for the second half
“At the moment it’s just frustration. The feeling that we gave the game away second half. We fought really hard to be in the position that we are in. today we were in a critical moment to keeping hoping for that dream.”
