Napoli director responds to Victor Osimhen rumours amidst Arsenal’s interest
Arsenal has been associated with the potential signing of Victor Osimhen in recent times, with some speculators suggesting a transfer might occur in the upcoming January transfer window.
Osimhen, recognized as one of the premier strikers globally, seems unlikely to renew his contract with Napoli.
Talks between Osimhen and Napoli regarding a new contract have hit a standstill, opening the door to his potential departure in January. Nevertheless, finalizing such a transfer could pose considerable challenges.
Arsenal is rumored to have an interest in recruiting a striker, and bringing in a talent like Osimhen would significantly enhance their aspirations for the current season’s title.
Since his move to Naples, Osimhen has performed exceptionally well in both European and domestic competitions.
Notwithstanding the rumors, Napoli’s sporting director, Mauro Meluso, has reaffirmed the club’s position, emphasizing that they have no intention of selling Osimhen in the upcoming January transfer window.
He said, as quoted by Football London: “No, no way (whether players will leave in January).
“Absolutely not. Our squad is very good and we feel relaxed. Of course, we can improve it but we will discuss this topic later.
“We will certainly get together to understand how and whether to intervene. There will be a meeting between the president and Osimhen’s entourage over the next few weeks. It is part of the game and a little time is needed to think about it.”
Given that Osimhen is regarded as one of the world’s top strikers and a crucial figure for Napoli, his departure at the midway point of the season could potentially have disastrous consequences for the team.
It’s possible that waiting until the end of the season might make Napoli more open to negotiating a deal with us.
