Paul Merson thinks Mikel Arteta is not playing Havertz in the right position
Paul Merson has analyzed Kai Havertz’s performance, suggesting that the German player is not currently being utilized in his most effective position.
Havertz has faced challenges adapting to the Premier League, and there has been ongoing debate about his ideal position since his time at Chelsea.
Upon joining Arsenal, Mikel Arteta expressed confidence that Havertz could seamlessly replace Granit Xhaka in the team’s midfield. However, Havertz’s transition to the Emirates has not been as smooth as initially expected.
Despite initial struggles, Havertz has displayed improvement by scoring consecutive goals for Arsenal, boosting his confidence for the rest of the season.
While Mikel Arteta’s team is eager to capitalize on his return to form, Merson believes that Havertz is currently not deployed in his optimal position, indicating potential for improvement in his role within the team.
He said, as quoted by The Sun: “Havertz is a confident player and he’s playing with confidence right now.
“I thought he was the best player on the pitch tonight. He was elegant, he picked the right passes and made the right decisions.
“He’s a top player. I don’t think he’s playing in the right position but he’s still a top player.”
Arteta had a specific plan for Havertz’s role before acquiring the German attacker. Despite the former Chelsea player’s initial struggles, there is optimism that his recent improvement in form will persist in the upcoming game.
