Pep Guardiola snubs Arsenal as Man City manager names best team in Premier League
Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has ignored Arsenal when selecting the best team in the Premier League.
Despite City playing catch up with Arsenal, who currently lead the table by five points, Guardiola did not name them as the best. This weekend, Arsenal will face Bournemouth and hope to continue their winning streak after losing to City last month.
In the same period, City dropped points against Nottingham Forest while Arsenal recovered with a victory against Aston Villa.
The Premier League’s top two teams are yet to face each other, and this match could potentially determine who wins the title this season. Currently, Arsenal has an advantage over City, but with 13 games left to play, there is still plenty of room for surprises.
Arsenal has won 19 games this season, more than any other team, and has only lost three matches, which is only one more than Newcastle’s two losses.
Guardiola is optimistic that his team will secure three points in their upcoming match against Newcastle, whom he named as the best team in the Premier League, ahead of the current league leaders.
“The threats, transitions, set pieces – they’re the best team in the league,” Guardiola said about Newcastle United during his press conference on Friday.
He added: “They have not been here a long time [near the top four] and you always think they need time but they have done exceptional recruitment, experienced players, exactly what they need.
“A manager [Eddie Howe] with huge quality. It’s maybe a surprise but not any more and I think they’ll stay there.
“They are one of the toughest opponents we have to the end of the season. The mentality, transitions, threats, they are one of the best teams. That’s why they are there.”
Manchester City has defeated Arsenal twice this season, in the FA Cup and the Premier League. However, when compared to Newcastle, Arteta’s team is undoubtedly the better side.
It appears that Guardiola has already begun playing mind games, but Arsenal is determined to overcome any obstacles and challenges they face in their pursuit of their first Premier League title since 2004, without being distracted by such tactics.
