Pgmol issue statement after Robertson incident in Liverpool vs Arsenal
The PGMOL has issued a statement indicating that they are aware of the incident between Andrew Roberston and linesman Constantine Hatzidakis.
The incident occurred at halftime of the Premier League match between Liverpool and Arsenal, after tensions had reached a boiling point. Jordan Henderson, the left-back for Liverpool, was cautioned for complaining to referee Paul Tierney.
PGMOL’s Statement read: “PGMOL is aware of an incident involving assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis and Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson at half-time during the Liverpool v Arsenal fixture at Anfield. We will review the matter in full once the game has concluded.”
Early goals from Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli gave Arsenal the lead, but an incident involving Granit Xhaka and Trent Alexander Arnold quickly turned the game on its head. Mohamed Salah scored a goal for Liverpool shortly after their altercation, which was precipitated by Xhaka’s accidental elbow on Alexander Arnold.
Tensions continued to rise until the halftime whistle, and things reached a boiling point as the two teams headed down the tunnel, although no Arsenal stars were involved. Instead, the controversy centered on Andy Robertson and linesman Constantine Hatzidakis.
The Scotsman began pleading with the official over a decision, but his complaints were literally brushed off when Hatzidakis threw an elbow at Robertson, which struck him in the face.
In March, Aleksandar Mitrovic of Fulham was shown a red card for pushing a referee, leading to an eight-game suspension.
